Word from the founder

Dr. Melody Cofield Master Historian
Legacy Of '64 is an educational and historical enterprise dedicated to preserving the history of post-riot collaborations, which formed to rebuild and recreate the suffered racial injustice. We do this by promoting the history of post-riot collaborations, preserving records, artifacts, oral and written histories, and creating documentaries to share, display, and tell the rich legacy of 1964 riots. We are also committed to honoring outstanding contributors and connecting past, present, and future generations.

he Rochester Riots of July '64 precipitated an epidemic of over 300 riots across the country spanning the course of two years. While much more is known today about the unfortunate circumstances leading to these events, very little has been documented about what was done to restore and heal these communities.
